June is National Safety Month
In recognition of National Safety month, the VDOE is urging educators and caregivers to ensure their environments are safe and free from any dangers. Implement regular safety checks to identify hazards in classrooms, outdoor play areas, vehicles and more. Visit the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website for safety resources and topics that you can focus on each week this month to help keep your child care program or school safe.

Child Care Provider Legislative Updates Webinar on June 22
Join the Office of Child Care Health and Safety for a webinar to learn about new laws related to child day programs and family day systems. This webinar is relevant for licensees, owners, and directors who represent licensed programs, subsidy vendors, voluntarily registered homes, religious exempt centers, certified preschools, and license-exempt programs. Registration is limited to 500 registrants, but the webinar will be recorded and streamed live on VDOE’s YouTube channel on June 22.

Save the Dates: Fundamentals of Early Childhood Special Education Administration – Webinars on August 10 and August 17
Please save the dates for this two-part webinar series intended for new ECSE administrators, new special education directors or those who would like a refresh on topics related to ECSE administration. The series will cover important topics, including an overview of Early Childhood and Early Childhood Special Education programs, VDOE guidance regarding inclusive practices, an overview of ECSE indicator data (indicators 6, 7, and 12), and VQB5. Participants should attend both sessions.
Managing the IEP Process Through a Trauma-Informed Lens – Webinar on June 15
The VDOE's Department of Special Education and Student Services is hosting a webinar for special education coordinators, directors, teachers, school psychologists, school social workers, and staff involved in the Individualized Education Program (IEP) process. The presentation features a focus on behavioral health supports and the intersection within IEP development from referral to family engagement to IEP design and implementation. Attendees will learn how to develop effective, compliant IEPs for vulnerable students.

Involving Fathers of Children with Disabilities
Fathers play an integral role in their children’s lives. This parental support is especially important during early childhood when families are navigating information regarding their child’s disability. To encourage increased engagement with fathers of children identified with a disability, the National Office of Early Childhood Development, Teaching and Learning have compiled key resources for families to promote active participation.

LAST WEEK to complete Spring CLASS Observations in VQB5 Practice Year 2!
All programs that are currently participating in Practice Year 2 need to have completed a spring local CLASS observation in every classroom and entered scores in LinkB5 by June 9. Contact your Ready Region if you have questions about local CLASS observation completion.

Early Childhood Workforce Survey for VQB5 Educators – Deadline Extended to June 16!
Do you work at an early childhood program participating in VQB5? If so, the deadline has been extended to June 16 for you to participate in the Early Childhood Workforce survey! Recently, partners from the Study of Early Education through Partnerships at UVA sent an email invitation (from noreply@surveys.virginia.edu) with a survey link to all eligible educators. After completing the survey, you will receive a $20 gift card within 2-3 business days! Questions? Can’t find your survey link or gift card? Please see the FAQ or contact the UVA team by email.

The Office of Early Childhood Learning has a new webpage dedicated to Curriculum!
The EC Curriculum webpage houses information and resources to support curriculum use across the Commonwealth, including providers participating in VQB5. Visitors will find resources connecting Curriculum to CLASS, Virginia's current Approved Curricula List (updated monthly), information about the Curriculum Review Process, and resources to support curriculum choice. You can find additional information about the ELDS and aligned resources on the Early Childhood Standards & Instructional Supports page.
