Virginia Child Care Scholarship Program - Summer 2023 Application Period – March 15 through April 15, 2023
Updated Virginia Preservice Training and Annual Health and Safety Training
Updated 2023 versions of the Virginia Preservice Training for Child Care Staff (10 hours) and the Virginia Annual Health and Safety Update Training for Child Care Staff (3 hours) were released on March 1. Please review the memo and flyer distributed to licensed child day centers and subsidy approved child day programs for more details. These trainings continue to be offered for free through the Department's partnership with Pennsylvania State University/Better Kid Care.
Update for IMPACT Registry Users
Virginia’s Early Childhood Professional Development Registry – known as the IMPACT Registry – is being phased out and will end on June 30, 2023. Information that is currently in IMPACT Registry accounts will not be transferred to any other system nor will it be requested of Virginia’s unified Early Childhood Care and Education system (VQB5) in the future. Current users can log-in to their account to access any stored information until June 30, 2023.

Virginia Preschool Initiative
VPI Local Criteria Eligibility Waiver for 2023-2024: First Window Opens March 15
This is the first of three application windows to submit the VPI Local Criteria Eligibility Waiver, which allows school divisions to request that more than 15% of their VPI slots use locally determined eligibility criteria. Each application is reviewed by the Superintendent of Public Instruction and VDOE staff. To complete, ensure access to the application in SSWS by contacting your local SSWS manager.

VDOE will be host a two part webinar series to prepare school divisions for the 2023-2024 school year. VPI Coordinators and VPI Enrollment staff are encouraged to attend. Topics will include: strategies for increasing enrollment, tips for strong community partnerships, insights on successful program operations, and much more. Registration is required.

Through funding from Virginia Department of Education, Wolf Trap Institute programs are now available to Pre-K, K, & 1st grade classrooms in school districts across Virginia.

Introduction to Early Childhood Education for Children with IEPs – Webinar Recording
On February 14, VDOE offered an overview of early childhood education programs, including ECSE, for special education directors and administrators. The webinar provided information about early childhood education and models for service delivery. This webinar and accompanying slides have been archived on the Leadership in Effective And Developmentally-appropriate Services (LEADS) website.

VKRP and VLP “Preparing for Spring Assessment” Webinar Recording
UVA partners from the Virginia Kindergarten Readiness Program (VKRP) and Virginia Literacy Partnerships (VLP, formerly PALS) offices provided programs administering VKRP assessments (EMAS and CBRS) and/or the PreK Language and Literacy Screener in the spring with essential tools they need for a successful assessment period through a recorded webinar last week. Training and technical assistance for administration of these assessments is explored in this one-hour recording. Submit questions to the padlet and complete the post-webinar survey to provide feedback to inform future engagement.
DOE Curriculum Vendor "Get to Know You" Lunch & Learn Series Continues Tomorrow, March 15
VDOE will host representatives from Early Learning Matters (Infant, Toddler, PreK), Funshine Express (Infant, Toddler, PreK), and Exceed Preschool Curriculum 4-year-old (PreK). This virtual series offers providers the opportunity to learn more information about approved curriculum options and to ask questions directly from vendors in optional breakout sessions. Each one-hour session will take place on Wednesdays at 12:30 p.m. and continue through the Spring. Registration is required for attendees.
