VDOE Fine Arts Resources and Opportunities

  • December VDOE Fine Arts Update Virtual Meeting: Division supervisors of arts education and educator leaders are invited to attend a VDOE fine arts update meeting and conversation on Wednesday, December 14, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. The intended audience for these updates is division-level leaders who oversee fine arts instruction. Fine arts educators, community partners, professional organization leaders, and other stakeholders are also invited to attend. Registration is required to attend. The meeting will not be recorded.

  • Survey to Determine Needs Related to English-Learners: In an effort to better determine the needs related to English Learner (EL) instruction across Virginia, staff of the EL program have created a survey for division curriculum specialists: Division Curriculum Specialist Survey of Needs 2022-2023.

  • 2023 VDOE Fine Arts Steering Committee Information and Application: Fine arts educators and curriculum specialists may apply to participate in the 2023 VDOE Fine Arts Steering Committee. From January to August, members will receive leadership training related to providing professional learning opportunities and instructional resources for fine arts educators to support the implementation of the 2020 Fine Arts Standards of Learning. In addition, members will conduct a needs assessment, identify goals and strategies, develop and lead professional learning activities, develop instructional resources for the VDOE website, and more. Details and information are found below: 

    • 2023 VDOE Fine Arts Steering Committee Information Document: This document outlines committee requirements, timeline, compensation, and more.

    • 2023 VDOE Fine Arts Steering Committee Application: Those interested in serving must fully complete and submit the application on or before Sunday, December 4, 2022.

    • HAPPENING TODAY: Interest Meeting: Those interested in learning more may attend an optional interest meeting on Monday, November 28, 2022, at 7:30 p.m. via Zoom. Register here to attend. The meeting will allow an opportunity for discussion and Q&A and will not be recorded.

Partner Resources and Opportunities

  • Virginia Department of Aviation:

    • 2023 Aviation Art Competition: The Virginia Department of Aviation sponsors the Virginia Aviation Art Contest and is open to students ages 6 through 17. Each year a theme is selected with state winners going on to the national, and then international competitions. Deadline is January 10, 2023.
    • Teacher's Grant: Do you have an aviation inspired lesson but not the money to implement it? Let the educators with The Virginia Department of Aviation (DOAV) help you! Our Teacher's Grant can reimburse you or your school up to $500 and is open to all Virginia teachers in grades K-12. Past grants have been used for model planes and rockets, drones, field trips, and even art supplies. Pitch us your idea!
