Child Care Centers and Family Day Homes
Free Training Resources Available through Child Care Aware of Virginia (CCAoVA)
Child day centers and family day homes are reminded that CCAoVA offers a variety of training opportunities related to first aid and CPR, emergency preparedness, trauma-informed care, trauma-responsive care, and strengthening business practices. If your program serves children birth through 36 months of age or participates in the child care subsidy program, you may qualify for free training. Visit the CCAoVA website today to see available trainings in the training calendar.Â

Early Childhood Special Education
Apply Today: Itinerant Early Childhood Special Education Service Delivery Model Community of Learning
The VDOE will offer a Community of Learning this fall for teachers endorsed in ECSE who use the itinerant model. The six-session, virtual series will focus on building competencies to implement itinerant services to ensure the active and meaningful participation of young children with disabilities in general education settings. Applications are due by September 2.

Coordinated Preschool Enrollment Feedback Survey
On August 16, the VDOE hosted a webinar for all early childhood education leaders responsible for administrative oversight of Head Start, VPI, and Mixed Delivery programs to provide local strategies for coordinated preschool enrollment, the webinar was recorded. As we continue our efforts to increase access and maximize funding we need to hear from the field, please share your comments and suggestions by September 16.
Looking Forward to the New Program Year - Message from the Office of Head Start
The acting director Katie Hamm for the Office of Head Start shared a message to welcome back all of the Head Start workforce for the new program year. She acknowledges the challenges programs faced during the pandemic, and offers a message of gratitude and support for their tireless efforts to ensure that children and families received the most comprehensive services. Watch Director Hamm’s message to the field.Â

VQB5 Practice Year 2 Registration Now Open!
Registration for the second practice year of VQB5 opened on August 1st! All publicly funded programs should register for Practice Year 2 to prepare for the new VQB5 system.  Programs must register by Sept. 16, 2022 through Ready Regions. Contact your local Ready Region for registration details.
VQB5 Information Session for Subsidy Vendors - Webinar on August 24
On August 24, VDOE will host a webinar for subsidy vendors, who serve children ages birth to five, to provide information about the VQB5 2022-2023 Practice Year. The webinar will also include information about how VDOE is supporting subsidy vendors to meet the new VQB5 quality expectations. This webinar is intended for site directors/administrators, family day home providers and other program leaders who support subsidy vendors. (This webinar will be recorded)
Local CLASS Observation Fall Window Now Open!
The fall observation window opened on August 22 and runs through December 23. Join WIDAâ„¢ for an Overview of Resources for Supporting Multilingual Children and Families - Webinar on August 31
The VDOE has partnered with WIDA™ Early Years to help support multilingual children in early care and education (ECE) settings. On August 31, all birth-five educators and leaders are invited to join a kickoff webinar for the 2022-2023 school year. Participants will learn about WIDA™ Early Years, explore tools and resources, and have opportunities to provide input on local dissemination and implementation of WIDA Early Years resources.

Fall 2022 VKRP Assessment Term Begins as of August 22; PreK Language & Literacy Screener Assessment Term Begins September 6
The Fall 2022 VKRP assessment term began August 22 and ends November 4; the PreK Language & Literacy Assessment term is September 6-November 11. Programs required to participate in VKRP (VPI and Virginia Early Childhood Mixed Delivery classrooms) and those eligible/signed up to participate should work within their program to determine their assessment window according to guidelines detailed in the 2022-2023 Assessment Calendar. Read the VKRP FAQs for more information regarding VKRP requirements.
