Congratulations to the Virginia Management Fellows Cohort 5 on their recent graduation and pinning ceremony in June. The 2024 DHRM HR Conference planning is underway! The conference will be held September 30th through October 2nd in the Hampton Roads area. We encourage all HR Professionals to attend this dynamic three-day event. If you are interested in joining the planning focus group for the conference, please let me know. More details for you to share with your respective staff will be coming soon! We hope you can make it.
Thank you for submitting the Employment Opportunities Plans that were due on June 30th. Please remember the Workforce Plans are due by September 30th each year. The metrics from these plans are valuable resources that will help us assess the effectiveness of our employee engagement efforts.

The DHRM Policy team is actively engaged in reviewing and updating policies that are applicable to the Executive Branch Agencies. Policies 1.35, Emergency Closings and 1.70, Separation from State Service are revised effective 7/10/24 and published to the DHRM webpage at the Policies and Resources tab.

Our Workforce Planning team has released an enhanced version of the Agency Strategy template to support agency workforce planning efforts. This new version focuses on balancing these phases by significantly reducing the required analysis, while still providing the key insight needed to craft effective strategies, to assist agencies with progressing from the analysis to the strategy development phase.
The Office of Trauma and Resilience Policy at VDSS has created a new e-learning course, Fundamentals of Trauma, which is available to agencies and employees in the COVLC.
We have been receiving a lot of questions regarding ADA and wanted to remind you that we have webinar presented by the DHRM Policy Team that provided an overview of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The Virginia Department of Workforce Development and Advancement (DWDA), also known as Virginia Works, was established under the Secretary of Labor as a result of legislation passed during the 2023 Session of the Virginia General Assembly. On July 1, 2024, the transition was finalized to establish Virginia Works as a new agency.
ODU/EVMS Integration
On July 1, 2024, nearly 2,195 EVMS employees became state employees by integrating with Old Dominion University (ODU). With this transition, ODU will have the largest academic health sciences center in the Commonwealth!
Engagement
The Office of Workforce Engagement’s Diversity & Inclusion Unit has updated the Managing Virginia Program (MVP) – Understanding EEO & EEO Related Processes Module on the Commonwealth of Virginia Learning Center (COVLC). As part of the Unit’s EEO Education Campaign, this module is intended for all employees. More information can be found in the link above.

The Employee Assistance Program (EAP) is here to help state employees access tools, resources, and support to help out along the way. Covered employees and their household members can access all of this at no extra cost to the employee. Anthem EAP also provides other helpful tools. Please encourage employees to take advantage of local, Virginia and national discounts exclusively for the Commonwealth’s workforce, their families and retirees. Congratulations to Kevin Snow who has joined the Office of the Chief Information Officer as a full-time Senior Data Analysis. Kevin will be assisting the Data Analysis team with supporting DHRM's reporting needs. Kevin comes from the private secto. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and has with over 20 years' experience as a Data Analyst, Data Developer, Business Intelligence Developer, and Data Engineer. |
Congratulations to Loren Yourgal who has joined the Office of Workers Compensation as a new Risk Management Specialist working. Loren worked for ABC for nine years before joining DHRM. She is from the Tidewater region and recently moved to King William County. She enjoys animals, gardening, farmers markets, hiking and mud runs whenever she can. Loren likes to attend rodeos with her sister and getting out and enjoying the summer months. She describes herself as a truly a winter woman at heart and absolutely love Christmas!
