Nationwide Change - Healthcare Cyber Security Incident May Impact COV Members
On June 26, 2024, the Department of Human Resource Management (DHRM) Office of Health Benefits was notified of a data breach. It was determined that the breach may impact members of the health plans administered by Evelance (Anthem) and Aetna.
Change Healthcare a widely used provider of healthcare billing and data systems disclosed a cyber security incident in their computer system substantially impacting the healthcare industry including past and present health care providers, health plans and related vendors. In June of 2024, Aetna and Anthem were notified by Change Healthcare that some members protected health information may have been compromised. Due to the ongoing forensic investigation that began on February 21, 2024, a comprehensive accounting of affected data and number of Commonwealth members impacted are unknown.
Health and Human Services (HHS) OCR has issued a recent press release and FAQ regarding the Cyberattack on Change Healthcare.
Change Healthcare will send written notification at the conclusion of their data review to impacted individuals, as well as free credit monitoring and identity protection services for two years.
Please consult Change Healthcare’s website, which is periodically updated, for additional information.
No action is required by agencies. However, DHRM will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates, as necessary.
