April 11, 2024
Dear State Employees,
Governor Youngkin officially declared April 21- 27 as Virginia Volunteer Week. Celebrate Virginia Volunteer Week by volunteering at a STATE PARK! The Department of Human Resource Management and Virginia State Parks have partnered to host Virginia Volunteer Week, exclusively for state employees. There are state parks all across the Commonwealth that could use your hands and time, especially on April 22, Earth Day! Parking for volunteers is FREE and some opportunities are family friendly and make good team building exercises.
Check out the list below which features 15 State Parks around the Commonwealth, offering volunteer opportunities to state employees and their families during Virginia Volunteer Week.
To locate a state park in your area offering state employees volunteer opportunities, please check out the list of state parks and complete an application to volunteer. If there is not a state park near you, you can find additional volunteer opportunities at your local volunteer center! Or click here to locate a volunteer center near you through Serve Virginia.
Share your volunteering photos with us! We would like to feature employee volunteer photos in the Employee Experience magazine that is published quarterly. Submit photos here.
Please note: In accordance with the provisions of DHRM Policy 4.40, employees seeking to use School Assistance and Volunteer Service Leave for non-group opportunities will need to coordinate their volunteer time through the Virginia Association for Parks (VAFP), a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the efforts of Virginia’s national, state, and regional parks. To do so, volunteering employees should provide notice to each volunteer site that their hours are being worked through VAFP. In return, the volunteer site will provide a certified letter attesting to the volunteer hours worked.
If you have questions, please contact EmployeeEvents@dhrm.virginia.gov mailbox.
Thank you,
DHRM Office of Workforce Engagement
