What Happens if You Change Banks or Accounts?
If your bank account information changes (for example, a new account number or changing banks), you must update your Direct Deposit details in Cardinal immediately. Updating the information right away helps to prevent delays or errors.

Keeping Your Account Secure
We recommend taking the following steps to ensure your direct deposit and personal information remain secure in Cardinal:
|
|
Maintain a Valid Email Address
Ensure your primary email address in Cardinal is current and correct. This is how you receive confirmation emails for all Cardinal direct deposit and health benefits updates to your records.
How to View Your Email Address in Cardinal:
- From the Cardinal HCM Homepage, click the Personal Details tile
- Select Contact Details from the menu
Need to Update your Email? Contact your agency HR Administrator.
|
|
Review Cardinal Email Alerts
An email notification is sent every time a direct deposit change is made in Cardinal, no matter who makes it.
- These email notifications will come from a “noreply.HRPRD” address ending in @doa.virginia.gov (Example: noreply.HRPRD1@doa.virginia.gov)
Review these messages carefully. If something looks unexpected or you did not make or initiate the change, contact your agency payroll office immediately.
|
|
Switch to Secure Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
To enhance security, the Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA) will soon retire SMS (text message) and phone call options for MFA login verification.
Before these methods are retired, you are encouraged to set up and use an alternate MFA option other than SMS or phone call for Cardinal login verification.
For more details on MFA options, visit our Set Up Okta Verify for Cardinal Users page on the Cardinal website.
