You’re invited to Arlington’s 41st Dark Star Park Day!

Fri, Aug 1 | 9a | 1655 N Fort Myer Dr | Rosslyn

This special event invites the community to experience the remarkable shadow alignment of Nancy Holt’s iconic sculpture, Dark Star ParkAt approximately 9:32 a.m., the spheres and poles of Holt’s Dark Star Park will cast shadows that align perfectly with permanent shapes on the ground. This symbolic moment marks the founding of Rosslyn and transforms the park into a striking space of cosmic connection. Light refreshments will be provided by the Rosslyn Business Improvement District to add to the festive atmosphere.  

Dark Star Park remains one of Nancy Holt’s most significant urban installations, offering an accessible and profound immersive experience. Holt (1938–2014) was a groundbreaking artist whose work spanned various media, including poetry, film, video, land art and large-scale public sculptures. Her art continually pushed boundaries, questioning our perception of the world and our place in it. Register for the event here

Join the Rosslyn Business Improvement District and Arlington Arts at the 33rd Rosslyn Jazz Fest for an afternoon of music, community, food trucks, yard games, and more. Headlining this year’s festival is Grammy-nominated Southern Avenue, the high-voltage, Memphis-based group known for their electrifying blend of blues, soul, and gospel. The band brings its powerhouse vocals and genre-defying energy to the stage following its latest album, Family, on Alligator Records. When an Amish couple’s two sons are killed in a car accident, the family struggles to maintain their faith and cling to their way of life. In an act of unfathomable forgiveness, they take in Eric, the wayward young driver of the car. But Eric’s mistake cracks open the family’s dark history and brings back their eldest daughter, excommunicated five years earlier. Miri finds her family in shambles, the man who killed her brothers living in the barn, and the man who drove her away intent upon marrying her younger sister. Without a way forward, this insular community must seek to heal the deep wounds of the past, forcing everyone into a new kind of reckoning. Warning this production contains content that may be distressing to some audience members, including themes of death, grief, and sexual trauma. More

Can I Kick It? with the Invisible Skate Theory

"Can I Kick It?" is an engagement where films are musically scored live with hip-hop and other genres, led by DJ 2-Tone Jones. To incorporate the skateboard-forward exhibition at Mason Exhibitions Arlington, Invisible Skate Theory, they'll be screening Skate KitchenSkate Kitchen is about Camille's life as a lonely suburban teenager that changes dramatically when she befriends a group of girl skateboarders. As she journeys deeper into this raw New York City subculture, she begins to understand the true meaning of friendship as well as her inner self. Come enjoy along community and learn the deeper threads that the culture of skateboarding provides in our culture. More
