Nailing the Application: A Guide to Artist Open Calls

To be an artist is to constantly apply for things. Many creative opportunities–from residencies to exhibitions–start with an open call. How can you ensure you’re putting your best foot forward when submitting these applications? This free online workshop is presented by the New York Foundation for the Arts (NYFA) and made available by the Northern Virginia Local Arts Agencies (NVLAA) partnership.

Part I: The Narrative will focus on the written portion of applications and Part II: Work Samples will focus on the work sample portion of applications. You can register for either or both sessions. Both sessions will be moderated by NYFA Learning Program Officer Kelly Olshan and feature Brigitta Váradi, Artist, '21 NYFA Fellow, and Residency Director, ChaNorth (Chashama) and Alex Paik, Artist and Director, Tiger Strikes Asteroid. More

National Chamber Ensemble: Hungarian Musical Masterpieces

The NCE Season opening features the music of Hungary's famous sons: Bela Bartok, Ernst von Dohnanyi and Franz Liszt and more. A great way to experience music of Hungary and get a taste of their culture. Classical music of Hungary creates its own musical flavor using the charming world of the folk song and a distinctive classical style that will captivate. This delightful musical journey will be brought to life by the exceptional talents of Leonid Sushansky (violin), Steven Honigberg (cello), and Carlos Cesar Rodríguez (piano). The guest host for this performance will be US State Dept Acting Director, Foreign Service Board of Examiners Yolonda Kerney. More

Beethoven’s Egmont Overture and a world premiere by composer Jocelyn Hagen (commissioned by the Arlington Chorale) round out this electrifying program. More
