Día de los Muertos Celebration – an evening picnic!

Fri, Nov 1 | 5-8p | MoCA Arlington | Virginia Square

Join us for an evening picnic on the lawn of Museum of Contemporary Art Arlington with family-friendly art projects, Loteria games, vendors, performance and games. Delicious tacos and craft espresso drinks from local food trucks. Live performances include music from Mariachi Los Amigos, dance from Los Quetzales, and poetry reading from Edith Graciela Sanabria. Artist David Amoroso is building a large-scale ofrenda (altar) on the front portico of the building; bring a photo of a loved one who has passed to include and be honored. Match and toss bean bags with images of cotton swabs, dental floss, cat litter, human waste, toilet paper, cigarette butts, “flushable” wipes, etc. with the proper disposal vessel: sink, toilet, trash can or the food scraps collection bin. This colorful carnival game built specifically for Arlington by artist Scott Pennington is designed to accommodate two to three players at a time making it fun for friends and family! Learn how household waste impacts the County’s wastewater collection and treatment systems and how you can help. More

There will be music by Antoñio Villaronga and Boy Meets Pearl, spoken word by Gene Downing and a short film by Kerri Sheehan.
