National Black Poetry Day

Learn the history of National Black Poetry Day and how Black poetry resonates in Arlington County. Be inspired by poetry readings from local poets Angelique Palmer and Hayes Davis. There will be an opportunity to reflect on the spoken poetry as well as Q&A with the poets. Presented in partnership with the Department of Parks and Recreation. More

 

Let it Flow

Let it FLOW! by Scott Pennington

Match and toss bean bags with images of cotton swabs, dental floss, cat litter, human waste, toilet paper, cigarette butts, “flushable” wipes, etc. with the proper disposal vessel: sink, toilet, trash can or the food scraps collection bin. This colorful carnival game built specifically for Arlington by artist Scott Pennington is designed to accommodate two to three players at a time making it fun for friends and family! Learn how household waste impacts the County’s wastewater collection and treatment systems and how you can help. Let it FLOW! runs through October 26. More

This regional juried exhibition explores the artists’ interpretation of the show’s title, Altered States. Themes include transformation and change, alternate realities, inner or personal growth, shifting perspectives or visual distortion, and the physical use of artists’ materials. MoCA Arlington: Cyborg Cyanotypes with Danni O’Brien

Join the current Resident Artist, Danni O’Brien, at the MoCA Arlington Innovation Studio for this hands-on workshop. Cyanotype is one of the oldest photographic printing processes that is camera-less and involves layering images or objects onto paper coated with a solution sensitive to UV light. The resulting images are striking blue and white and exist as records of drawn lines, objects’ forms, and movement and time. More
