New Scam Alert: Inspector General's Office Warns: Hybrid Scams on the Rise VirginiaSMP | August 13, 2024
Scammers are compounding tactics by using fake Amazon or PayPal tech support emails and text messages to get you to connect with an imposter Social Security Administration (SSA) employee who will try to convince you that your Social Security number (SSN) or record is compromised.
The email or text message claims that something is wrong with your Amazon or PayPal account and while trying to fix the alleged issue, the scammer instead states that in searching your computer they found other problems, mainly with your SSN. They then offer to assist by transferring you to someone pretending to be with SSA. (READ MORE)

Dear VICAP Team,
What is an Annual Notice of Change?
Dear Medicare Beneficiary,
The Annual Notice of Change (ANOC) provides important information about your Medicare Advantage Plan for the next calendar year. Typically sent in September, the ANOC gives a summary of changes to the plan’s costs and coverage that take effect January 1 of the following year. The information contained in the ANOC is useful to help you decide if you want to make any changes during Medicare’s Open Enrollment Period.
There are three changes to look for in an ANOC:
- Changes to your plan's costs (like premiums, deductibles, or copays)
- Changes to your plan's pharmacies and provider networks
- Changes to your plan's formulary that might affect your prescription prices or coverage
After you review your ANOC, you can decide whether your Medicare Advantage plan still meets your needs or if you want to change your plan.
Medicare's Open Enrollment Period, occurs each year between October 15th and December 7th. If you haven't received your notice by September 30th, contact your plan to request a copy.
