A Legacy of Service

Arlington County is honoring the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with a series of events this holiday weekend.

The County will hold a special tribute, titled Stones of Hope, on Sunday Jan. 14. Register below to attend in person or attend virtually via livestream. 

Volunteer Arlington will also host the third annual MLK Day of Service on Monday, Jan. 15, from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Washington-Liberty High School.

Property Assessment Season

Keep an eye on the mailbox. Annual real estate property assessments are going out this month. In you're in a hurry, starting Jan. 12 (after 6 p.m.) you can look up your 2024 property assessment online.  

• Time is running out to weigh in about proposed changes to the National Science Teaching Association (NSTA) building on Wilson Blvd. Review the proposal and share your thoughts. 
  
  
• Our future is green. The County wants input from renters on energy and water efficiency tools that would be useful to you. The deadline is Jan. 15. 
  
  
• The Arlington Addiction Recovery Initiative (AARI) needs volunteers to tackle the opioid epidemic. Mark your calendars and join an upcoming info session.
  
  
• It is time for the playground at Gunston Park to be replaced. Learn more about the project timeline and weigh in on the renovation design plans.   
  
  
• Monroe Park is also getting a makeover and the County wants your input to help craft a new and improved playground.

• Be prepared for a blast of winter. The County is bracing for an extended cold snap forecasted to start on Saturday, Jan. 13 through the following weekend. 
  
  
• An annual STEM event returns with free fun for the whole family. Register for "Paint, Build, Create" at Fairlington Community Center on Jan. 16.
  
  
• Tuesday, Jan. 16 is the National Day of Racial Healing. Consider using the day to build connections and share experiences with colleagues.
   
• Become a public safety partner. Register your private security camera. This free and optional program enables Arlington public safety agencies to contact you in the event an incident occurs in your area.
  
  
• If you have new body goals in the new year, listen up. Long Bridge Aquatics and Fitness Center is offering free fitness classes with membership. 
  
  
• The clock is ticking. Learn how you can receive up to 35% off your 2024 stormwater utility bill if you have taken certain actions on your property. 
  
  

Teen Takeover Pool Party

Middle and high school teens are invited to the Teen Takeover Pool Party at Long Bridge on Jan. 27.  Feel free to bring friends. Registration is free.
