The holiday season means the return of annual events like the 18th Annual Arlington Turkey Trot. (Just make sure to plan for the road closures.)

• Weigh in on how the County reuses, recycles, and disposes of solid waste. Comment on the draft Solid Waste Management Plan through Dec. 1.
  
  
• Take part in a Disparity Study to understand the effects of race, ethnicity or gender on a businesses’ ability to do business in Arlington County.
  
  
• Provide input through Dec. 8 on the final draft concept for pickleball at Walter Reed. Explore the project layout and design features through a video presentation then provide your comments.
  
  
• The County’s Military and Veterans Advisory Committee is interested in hearing from military members, veterans, and their families who live or work in Arlington about types of services, and resources that could be helpful.
  
  
• County representatives will hold a virtual community meeting about the sitewide affordability and financing plan for Barcroft Apartments on Nov. 29. 
  
  
• An in-person tour of the RiverHouse project will be held on Thursday, Nov. 30, from 12-1 p.m. at 1111 Army-Navy Drive.

• The County Board has approved an update to the Historic and Cultural Resources Plan and adopted the Langston Boulevard Area Plan. 
  
  
• The County Board approved the Arlington Transit Strategic Plan, which will guide service over the next ten years. 
  
  
• County crews will begin replacing signage at crosswalks with new “Stop Here For Pedestrians” signs, as part of its Systemic Safety Improvements. 
  
  
• The Bill Thomas Award for Outstanding Park Service has been awarded to ARMN Park Stewards Program co-founder Beth Kiser.
  
  
• The County needs civic-minded volunteer commissioners. Several commissions have vacancies, including the Commission on the Status of Women, Commission on Aging, and Human Rights Commission. 
  
  
• Arlington County Police Dept. is ready for its annual toy donation drive on Saturday, Nov. 18. Donate new, unwrapped toys to "Fill the Cruiser". 
  
  

Thanksgiving Safety 

Thanksgiving can be a wonderful time for family gatherings, but it is regularly a very busy time for emergency services. Remember to cook with care, and don't dump fats, oils, and grease (FOG) down the drain.  

*Arlington County Government offices and services are operating on modified schedules for Thanksgiving on Thursday, Nov. 23, and Friday, Nov. 24. Enjoy the holiday!
