Las Cafeteras Opens FREE 2023 Summer Concert Series at Lubber Run Amphitheater

LA's explosive Chicano band Las Cafeteras opens this year's Lubber Run Summer Concert Series on Fri, June 9 at 8pm. Las Cafeteras have taken the music scene by storm with their infectious live performances and have crossed many genres and borders along the way. They are a sonic explosion of Afro-Mexican rhythms, electronic beats and powerful rhymes that document stories of a community seeking to ‘build a world where many world fit.’
On Saturday The 19th Street Band brings their high energy blend of Americana, country and rock with a taste of punk to the Lubber Run stage. Finally, join the Arlington Children's Chorus on Sunday morning for a family-friendly choral performance. The Lubber Run Summer Concert series runs Friday, June 9 through August 11, Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 pm, and Sundays at 11:00 am. More

Winning accolades for her appearances on TV’s The Voice and with the legendary Prince, JUDITH HILL headlines The Columbia Pike Blues Festival. Featured in the Oscar and Grammy Award-winning documentary “20 Feet from Stardom,” it’s a ‘family affair’ for Hill whose blues musician parents are in her backup band. The family vibe continues with a full line up of blues, R&B, and funk performers of national and regional note that includes: husband and wife singer & guitarist Annika Chambers & Paul DesLauriers, Arlington’s master guitarist and vocalist Bobby Thompson, Baltimore’s Gayle Harrod Band, and acoustic DC-duo Spice Cake Blues.

Featuring Afghan tabla player Hamid Raouf Habib Zada, the Chorale is excited to present a world premiere by Saunder Choi! This piece uses text by Sholeh Wolpé, an Iranian-born poet, playwright, and librettist, to describe the difficulties refugees face in leaving their homes and putting down roots in a new community. Some songs on this concert highlight aspects of the refugee experience making a new life here, while others signify the importance of coming together and listening to one another, helping us stand together as a community. Screening of “Black Wall Street, The Greenwood Ave Project”

The Black Wall Street massacre took place over two days, May 31 and June 1, 1921. Mobs of white residents attacked Black residents, destroying homes, businesses, and public institutions in Oklahoma’s Greenwood district. Attackers burned and destroyed more than 35 square blocks – one of the wealthiest Black communities in the United States.
Join the Black Heritage Museum for a world move premiere tour screening of “Black Wall Street, The Greenwood Ave Project“ by Karen Reese. Ms. Reese explores the events of May 31 and June 1, 1921 in the Greenwood District of Tulsa, Oklahoma. More
