New P.L.A.C.E Grant Opportunity!

Applications due April 28

Arlington Cultural Affairs and the Arlington Commission on the Arts are introducing the P.L.A.C.E. Grant, a new grant program that seeks to provide opportunities to artists, makers and performers from underserved and under-represented communities. Six $15,000 grants will be awarded. Applications are now being accepted through April 28. More

Moving Words Adult Competition 2023

From theater and dance, to galleries, the arts are everywhere in Arlington...even on the bus! Poets from around the Beltway are encouraged to enter the 24th Annual Moving Words Poetry Competition that takes their poetry on the go. Seven winners will have their poems displayed aboard ART buses traversing Arlington County from March through September 2023. More

For decades the Arlington County Cultural Affairs Scenic Studio has provided scenery construction facilities as a part of its support of arts organizations that receive grants from the Arlington Commission for the Arts. Just in time for Valentine’s Day, join TAP for a series of vignettes that revolve around the theme of love. Taking place in an almost-town called Almost, Maine, you will see a different, but important, facet of love in each scene: falling into it, falling out of it, muddling through it and discovering it, to name a few. Join in this beautiful study of the human heart and allow TAP to dazzle you with their version of the Northern Lights. More

 

 

Arlington Artists Alliance: Claim to Fame

In Claim To Fame artists were asked to submit the work they were most proud of, their personal Claim To Fame. This exhibit showcases art from across the United States with 50 pieces in a variety of artistic styles and forms. Come see the work these artists believe to be their personal best. The show was juried by Felecia Brice McFail, an Arts Commissioner for Arlington County, Virginia, calligraphy artist, and owner of From One Hand To Another, which showcases local and emerging artists. More

Visual Voices Lecture Series with Saki Mafundikwa

Saki Mafundikwa is the founder and director of the Zimbabwe Institute of Vigital Arts (ZIVA), a design and new media training college in Harare, Zimbabwe. Mafundikwa’s book, Afrikan Alphabets: the Story of Writing in Africa, is the first book on Afrikan typography. His first film, Shungu: The Resilience of a People, is a feature-length documentary that is an objective, in-depth look at the causes and effects of Zimbabwe’s political and economic decline through the voices of ordinary Zimbabweans. More
