The Bluest Eye

Dominion Stage: The Bluest Eye

August 6-21 | Gunston Theatre 2 | Long Branch Creek

Nobel Prize-winning author Toni Morrison's The Bluest Eye is a story about the tragic life of a young black girl in 1940s Ohio. Eleven-year-old Pecola Breedlove wants nothing more than to be loved by her family and schoolmates. Instead, she faces constant ridicule and abuse. She blames her dark skin and prays for blue eyes, sure that love will follow. With rich language and bold vision, this powerful adaptation of an American classic explores the crippling toll that a legacy of racism has taken on a community, a family and an innocent girl. Magic of the Ordinary

Arlington Artist Alliance: Magic of the Ordinary

thru Aug 27 | Gallery Underground | National Landing

Gallery Underground presents Magic of the Ordinary, a national juried exhibition of works juried by noted watercolor artist Lois Wolford. The Pop Art Movement challenged traditional fine art values and brought art based on popular culture and everyday items into the mainstream. It is typical that normal scenes and objects are overlooked, as they can be seen as commonplace or dull. However, magic can be found in the ordinary when it is interpreted as art. Artists were invited to look beyond and turn the ordinary into extraordinary, resulting in a compelling exhibition of works submitted from both the DMV area and across the country.

Join on Friday, August 6 for the gallery’s return to in-person First Friday opening receptions. More
