Garvey and Board Members Christian Dorsey, Matt de Ferranti and Katie Cristol each provided brief updates on a range of topics, both directly related to the COVID-19 response and also the ancillary effects. Topics included:

  • Social distancing and abiding by community closures to avoid overwhelming hospitals and medical facilities
  • Economic impacts in Arlington, including resources for small businesses and for people who have lost their jobs or income
  • What individuals can do to help keep everyone safe
  • How people can take care of themselves, their loved ones, and their community during this time
  • What the County is doing to help people in need, including housing security and domestic violence services

Board members also commended the County’s public health staff and other departments who have been working 24 hours a day to respond to the pandemic.

Arlington Va., is a world-class residential, business and tourist location that was originally part of the “10 mile square” parcel of land surveyed in 1791 to be the Nation's Capital. Slightly smaller than 26 square miles, it is the geographically smallest self-governing county in the United States, and one of only a handful with the prized Aaa/AAA/AAA bond rating. Arlington maintains a rich variety of stable neighborhoods and quality schools, and has received numerous awards for Smart Growth and transit-oriented development. Home to some of the most influential organizations in the world — including the Pentagon — Arlington stands out as one of America's preeminent places to live, visit and do business.
