First Fridays Groovin' on the Pike ft Funky Miracle!

New Orleans-style funk and blues are what's up when Funky Miracle is in the house! Formed in 1996 after drummer Steve Francis played bassist Dr Bob a recording of The Meters funk classic ‘Tippy Toes’. Taking the lead from this early funk, they play it loose and dirty. Featuring a diverse line up of musical groups from near and far, guests can dance in the stacks and enjoy a brew at the cash bar every first Friday of the month! More

Lee Highway Winter Festival of Lights 

The fun-filled Winter Festival of Lights is coming to Lee Highway on Saturday, December 1! See the Lee Corridor transformed into a winter wonderland of 10,000 lights. This free event will feature activities including performners, food, photos with Santa, and a Holiday Market. Lee Arts Center will have greeting card printing, button-making and ceramic demos. The ceramic demos are part of our Empty Bowl Throw-A-Thon supporting AFAC’s Empty Bowl event in February 2019. More

During the Lee Highway Winter Festival of Lights, Arlington Public Art in partnership with Historical Preservation are bringing book artist and papermaker Amos Kennedy to honor and commemorate the civil rights movement in Arlington. Amos Kennedy will be conducting a letterpress demo remembering the words of John M. Langston. The demo will take place at the Langston-Brown Community Center located at 2121 N. Culpeper St., Arlington, VA, 22207.

 

Winter Wonderland at Penrose Square

Penrose Square Winter Wonderland is a free event that welcomes all Arlington County residents to celebrate the holiday season together as a community. Join the fun during the Yeti parade and even decorate your own Yeti crowns and pennants. Santa and Mrs. Claus love to make an appearance each year and hear all about your holiday wish list! More

Windows to the Past: Arlington, Then and Now

Arlington Arts Commission FY18 grantee Tom Dickinson's new exhibit is a comparative photo compilation showing dozens of homes and buildings in Arlington that have been demolished over the last 40 years and the structures that replaced them in the exact same location. Dickinson sourced original wood window frames salvaged from the homes demolished to mount the photos.

SigWorks: The Reapers on Woodbook Avenue

Baltimore, 1976: matriarch Loretta Reaper is forced to consider how far she’ll go to protect her property. Charleston, 2008: Corey, Loretta’s great-grandson, must reclaim the land that was promised to – and stolen from – his ancestors. The Reapers on Woodbrook Avenue is presented as part of SigWorks: Monday Night New Play Readings at Ali’s Bar, an initiative that highlights and supports the work of DMV and regional playwrights. This series is an opportunity for playwrights, actors, directors, designers, and patrons to explore new plays in a fun and informal environment. More

The Arts Meet! is partnering with Marymount University for December’s meetup at the Cody Gallery, on Tuesday, December 4th, from 5:30PM to 7:30PM. The Cody Gallery’s current exhibit “The Taking”, a solo exhibition by Negar Ahkami, will be on display. Negar will be joining us for an Artist talk about her work. Marymount University will generously provide light fare. Please RSVP! More

Winter Wonderland Art Exhibit

Start the winter season at Gallery Underground with a fun, festive “Winter Wonderland,” a seasonally-themed show of new work by Gallery members during December. Also featured are works by multiple award-winning painter George Bowels, known for his beautiful and highly-refined traditional still life paintings in alkyd resin. George has shown his work at numerous regional galleries and was a finalist in the prestigious Artists Magazine annual art competition, twice for portraits and once for still life. More
