Columbia Pike Architecture
Following several workshops held earlier this year, County staff are moving forward with an amendment to Form Based Code regulations impacting building design and architecture. Recommended changes will first be presented to the FBC Advisory Working Group on Wednesday, September 13th at 7pm. Additional discussions on this topic are scheduled with the Zoning Committee of the Planning Commission on Wednesday, September 27th at 7pm and the Historical Affairs and Landmark Review Board on Wednesday, October 18th at 7:30pm.
Material for these meetings will be posted online. Following these meetings, staff anticipates a Request to Advertise action in November, with final consideration by the Planning Commission and County Board in December.
Western Gateway Public Art
Donald Lipski, the artist selected for the Western Gateway public art project, is coming to Arlington and will participate in an Artist Talk program on Monday, September 18th at 7pm. The event will take place at the Columbia Pike Library. Mr. Lipski will discuss his creative process in producing art work for the public realm in a moderated discussion with Arlington County Board member Christian Dorsey. You can view more information about this event by clicking here.
Carver Place Historical Markers
The Carver Place townhouse project is nearing completion in the Arlington View neighborhood. Elm Street Development and Craftmark Homes will host a small ceremony to unveil the historical markers that were delivered with this project as part of a new mini-park. The ceremony will take place on Tuesday, September 26th at 10:30am and honor Albert I. Cassell, the architect who designed the original apartments (Carver Homes) built on the site in 1943, as well as the residents who lived there until the site was sold for redevelopment. An Arlington County Board member is expected to give remarks and refreshments will be served.
