Traffic Changes at Two Route 1 Intersections

On Monday night, April 4 (weather depending), traffic pattern changes will be made to the intersections of 20th Street South and Route 1 and 23rd Street South and Route 1.

The leftmost left turn lane from southbound Route 1 onto 23rd Street will no longer be allowed to take an immediate right from 23rd Street onto South Clark Street. Drivers in this lane will be required to proceed through onto 23rd Street. The right lane of the dual left turn lanes will still be required to take an immediate right onto Clark Street after turning onto 23rd Street.

These modifications are due to Transitway operations. The changes will be well marked with signs and pavement markings. Please stay alert and follow the signs and pavement markings through the new traffic patterns at these intersections.

Bridge Construction to Impact Airport Traffic

Traffic to and from National Airport will be impacted by weekend resurfacing of the Route 233 Bridge and two ramps to the George Washington Memorial Parkway beginning on or about Friday, April 1.

The National Park Service and Federal Highway Administration will perform milling and paving work on the bridge that connects Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport to Route 1 in Crystal City. Additionally, nearby ramps to the northbound and southbound George Washington Memorial Parkway will be resurfaced, requiring periodic closures. Visit the Airports Authority website for details.

Construction Updates

This week our contractor continued reconstructing sidewalk areas and installing pavers on both sides of 18th Street. Crews also began placing concrete for the new street light foundations on both sides of the street.

During the next two weeks, the contractor will continue to reconstruct the sidewalks and curb and gutters, install pavers, and construct the street light foundations. Visit project page
