EES Videos Support HIV World AIDS Day This December

World AIDS Day

For World AIDS Day 2020, EES produced two videos highlighting these three steps and explaining what you can do to help end the HIV epidemic, both in VA and the U.S. (Administrative note: When clicking the link to this video, you will leave a VA-hosted website. This link is for informational purposes only. VA does not endorse and is not responsible for the content of the linked website, to include advertisements that might appear with the linked video.):

  • Ending HIV: It is possible to end the HIV epidemic in the United States – and we can do it in 10 years if everybody does their part. The strategy involves testing, prevention and treatment.
  • PrEP: This video explains pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP. PrEP is a medicine that reduces your risk of contracting HIV, even if you are exposed to it.

World AIDS Day fell on Dec. 1 this year, focusing on the theme of Ending the HIV/AIDS Epidemic: Resilience and Impact. “Resilience” is defined as “the capacity to recover quickly from difficulties.” In their service to the United States, Veterans are living symbols of resilience, and inspiring to all by their strength.

VA is collaborating with other Federal agencies, community partners and local health care organizations and providers to execute the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Ending the HIV Epidemic: A Plan for America. This plan responds to the President's 2019 pledge to end HIV in the U.S. over the next decade by aiming to reduce new HIV infections in the U.S. by 75% by 2025 and by 90% by 2030.

VA’s work to end the HIV epidemic centers around three fundamental steps: Test, prevent and treat. VA encourages all Veterans to join this national effort by getting tested, practicing prevention, and, if diagnosed with HIV, getting into and staying on treatment. These three steps can and will end the HIV epidemic in the U.S.
