Winter Storm Watch
Dear Veterans,
Current weather forecasts indicate wintry precipitation will develop across portions of our catchment area later in the week.
In the event of inclement weather, Veterans may call the AVAHCS main line at 404-321-6111, press 2 to change or schedule an appointment.
In the event of a medical emergency, please dial 9-1-1 or go to the nearest open emergency room.
AVAHCS will provide situational updates via social media and our website to inform Veterans of closures – if required due to severe weather.
January 12, 2025, is National Pharmacist Day, a date set aside to honor and recognize the positive impact that pharmacists have on our Veterans.
“Pharmacy plays an instrumental role in providing high quality healthcare within the VA,” said Dr. Jeffrey Denner, Atlanta VA HealthCare System Chief of Pharmacy. “I am extremely proud of our pharmacy team as they strive each and every day to ensure the safe and effective use of medications,” he added.
The Atlanta VAHCS pharmacy is comprised of 50 clinical pharmacists and 55 clinical pharmacy practitioners and provides comprehensive pharmacy services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for our Veterans. The pharmacy service has a 24/7 inpatient pharmacy, a 7 day a week outpatient pharmacy, and clinical pharmacy services which include embedded clinical pharmacy practitioners in Primary Care, Acute Care, Medical Specialty Clinics, Geriatrics and Extended Care, Mental Health, Critical Care and the Emergency Department.
Army Veteran Ramon Sims praised the Atlanta VA pharmacy staff for always having a caring demeanor and genuine concern for the patient’s well-being. “The VA pharmacists always take the time to make sure I feel comfortable with all my medications and provide additional drug information when necessary.”
“I can sincerely say that all of my visits to the Atlanta VA pharmacy have been above excellent, from start to finish,” Sims said.
Thank you to all the Atlanta VAHCS pharmacists who help keep Veterans healthy every day.
National Day of Mourning | January 9, 2025
In accordance with the Executive Order issued by President Biden – declaring Thursday, January 9, 2025, a National Day of Mourning – in honor of the life and service of former President James E. Carter Jr., AVAHCS administrative offices will be closed.
Please note: all direct care services for Veterans will continue at the main facility and VA Clinics. The Emergency Department located at the Joseph Maxwell Cleland Atlanta VA Medical Center and inpatient services will remain in operation.
The Atlanta VA Health Care System Center for Development & Civic Engagement (CDCE) has received generous holiday donations from community partners. These donations have been distributed to Veterans in need during the holiday season.
“A heartfelt thank you to all of community partners for their outstanding support during this holiday season,” said Gwen Ramos, Atlanta VAHCS CDCE chief. “Their dedication, compassion, and generosity have a significant impact on the lives of our Veterans and their families.”
