Salisbury VA is now offering updated Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna COVID-19 vaccines for the 2024-2025 season free of charge to Veterans and VA employees. The updated vaccines target more recent COVID-19 strains. Due to changes in the virus, it is important to get the updated vaccine as soon as you are eligible.
Veterans may ask their provider or care team for the updated '24-'25 vaccine at their next care appointment. Vaccines are available at our Charlotte, Kernersville, and Salisbury locations.
You can also call us at 704-638-9000 to schedule an appointment for your updated vaccine. Our staff will help you find a time that’s convenient for you.
New guidance for 2024-2025 vaccines
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that all adults get an updated 2024-2025 COVID-19 vaccine. Before you go to a VA health facility to get a COVID-19 vaccine, call to make sure the facility has the vaccine you want.
Guidance for adults who have had a COVID-19 vaccine before
Get 1 dose of a 2024-2025 vaccine (Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech). If you’re age 65 or older but you’re not moderately to severely immunocompromised, CDC no longer recommends additional vaccine doses.
Guidance for adults who have never had a COVID-19 vaccine before
If you’ve never had a COVID-19 vaccine before, choose one of these options:
- Get 1 dose of the 2024-2025 Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine
Guidance for adults with certain health conditions that weaken your immune system
If you have had a COVID-19 vaccine before, get 1 dose of the 2024-2025 Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine. You may also be eligible to get additional doses of one of these vaccines. Ask your provider how many doses they recommend for you.
If you’ve never had a COVID-19 vaccine before, choose one of these options:
- Get 3 doses of the 2024-2025 Moderna or Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine
You are up to date if you have had one dose of the most recent COVID-19 vaccines that became available in September 2024.
You can also receive your updated shot at no cost to you outside of VA.
