On January 9, 2024, the Joseph Maxwell Cleland Atlanta VA Medical Center Office of Emergency Management issued an announcement at 8:30 a.m. for all Veterans patients, staff, and guests to shelter in the facility’s basement – due to a tornado warning.
Staff immediately ensured that Veterans receiving care were safely relocated to the ground floor due to the severe weather alert. Facility leadership quickly assessed the state of vulnerability and maintained communication with VA Police Services, clinical and administrative services to safeguard patients and staff.
At 8:45 a.m. the Office of Emergency Management issued an all-clear, signifying end of the end of sheltering in place. Daily operations proceeded with little to no impact on Veteran patients and staff.
The health and safety of our Veteran patients and staff is top priority. We commend our staff’s prompt response, and thank our Veterans for entrusting us with their care.
Please be advised that the pedestrian bridge located at the Joseph Maxwell Cleland Atlanta VA Medical Center cannot be repaired and will have to be replaced.
After removing the concrete floor, rust was found inside and outside the support beams on the bridge. The structure was assessed and determined that construction of a new bridge is the best option.
We appreciate the patience and understanding of our employees, Veterans, and guests as we strive to ensure the safety and comfort of all who use the bridge for access from the parking decks to the medical center.
Updates on the status of the project will be made available as they arrive.
The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) is modernizing Clinical Contact Centers (CCC), currently known as call centers, to provide Veterans with additional choices for meeting clinical, pharmacy, scheduling and administrative needs. The VISN 7 CCC will provide 24/7 access to seamless, virtual care and support through a single, toll-free number. It will serve as a “virtual front door” to VA healthcare, providing Veterans a range of services from the comfort of their home, including dedicated clinical triage, urgent virtual care visits with providers, pharmacy services and support, appointment scheduling, and general inquiries.
The goal of the CCC is to enhance access to care by maximizing first contact resolution and improving the Veterans overall healthcare experience. Centralizing services enables us to standardize processes to reduce disparities across facilities and provide Veterans with a consistent healthcare experience. The CCC will Increase efficiency and effectively reduce Veteran wait time and call abandonment rates.
The VISN 7 team is excited to deploy the modernized CCC throughout the Southeast Region that includes Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina and is committed to keeping you informed as updates are available.
