Caregivers Wanted for Medical Foster Homes
We are seeking caregivers for our new Medical Foster Home (MFH) Program. An MFH provides Veterans with a homelike alternative to living in a nursing home. It is a private, residential home with a caregiver. The caregiver provides care at the nursing-home level for up to three Veterans. Homes must be within 25 miles of VA Pittsburgh’s University Drive campus. They can be owned or rented. To learn more, call 412-822-3590.

Suicide Prevention 2023 Report
VA last month released the 2023 National Veteran Suicide Prevention Annual Report, the largest national analysis of Veteran suicides through 2021 (the latest year for which we have data). The report shows 6,392 Veterans died by suicide in 2021, which is 114 more than in 2020. The number of non-Veteran suicides also increased to 40,020 deaths in 2021, which is 2,000 more than in 2020. Here in Pennsylvania, 246 Veterans died by suicide in 2021. If you or someone you know is at risk for suicide, Dial 988 then Press 1, text 838255, or chat online at Veterans Crisis Line.
Tell Us Your Story of Service
YOU inspire us: tell us your story of military service and let us take your portrait for our Faces of Service project. We will feature you on our social media and send you a copy of your portrait to frame and share with family and friends. Recent participates include Jack Feick, Tameka Moody and Melvin Walker. Interested? To request an interview and time to have your portrait taken, email VAPHS Socialize.

New VA Police Cameras
As part of a new national VA policy, our police officers now use body-worn and in-car cameras. The cameras automatically record video and audio when officers draw their firearms or activate their vehicles’ emergency lights. Officers can also manually activate the cameras. Unless there is a clear and compelling need for a recording, police do not record in locations where a reasonable expectation of personal privacy exists. For more information, review “Frequently Asked Questions: VA Police Body-worn, In-Car Cameras” at VA Police.
