Dear Veteran,
The single best way to reduce the risk of seasonal flu and its potentially serious complications is to get the Influenza Vaccination each year. Good health habits also reduce getting the flu like avoiding people who are sick, covering your cough, and washing your hands often can help stop the spread of germs and prevent respiratory illnesses like flu.
The Quadrivalent Flu shots are no-cost to all enrolled Veterans during a regular scheduled appointment or any Primary Care as a Flu Walk-In Visit, at the Community Based Clinic or the VA Facility Community Partner. The Fluzone Quadrivalent injection is for Veterans less than 65 years of age. The Fluzone High-Dose inactivated vaccine (HD-IIV) is for Veterans ages 65 years and older.
- Main campus influenza vaccination Walk-In is Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. until 3:30 p.m. Veterans are to be observed for the wait period of 15 minutes after vaccination.
- The Longview, Monroe and Texarkana Walk-In Flu Vaccination Clinics are Wednesdays, October 4th through December 20, 2023 from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. No appointment is necessary, excluding November 22, 2023, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
- To find a community pharmacy to receive a flu vaccine, use the VA Facility Community Partner using your zip code: http://www.va.gov/find-locations/ Please make sure the Community Partner is aware you are receiving this through the Community Partnership with VA.
- Have you had a flu shot since August 31, 2023, from a private provider, please call your primary care nurse to document the influenza vaccination. Another option is to contact your primary care nurse through MyHealtheVet to capture your vaccination.
- The COVID Vaccine is available as a Walk-In to Primary Care at the Main Campus.
- COVID Vaccines can be received through the Community Based Outpatient Clinics during a scheduled visit. Please contact your CBOC team to schedule the COVID vaccine.
Sincerely,
Your Veteran Influenza and COVID Vaccination Primary Care Team
