Veterans Health Administration sent this bulletin at 10/17/2023 06:05 PM EDTDear Veteran,
The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) will begin giving COVID-19 vaccinations starting October 23, 2023. The updated 2023 - 2024 COVID-19 Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine will be available at no cost to Veterans enrolled in VA health care. VA also provides free COVID-19 testing to all eligible Veterans.
It is safe to get a COVID-19 vaccine and flu vaccine at the same time along with other vaccinations too.
Due to changes in the virus and waning immunity, it is important to get the updated 2023 - 2024 COVID-19 vaccine as soon as you are eligible.
- One dose of an updated 2023 - 2024 vaccine is recommended for all adults.
- The updated dose must be given at least two months after any older COVID-19 vaccine dose.
- Anyone who has not yet received any COVID-19 vaccine should receive one single dose of an updated 2023 - 2024 vaccine. And a second vaccine four weeks later to complete the initial baseline series.
- Additionally, people with moderately to severely immunocompromising conditions may receive additional updated 2023 - 2024 COVID-19 doses, if recommended by their provider.
