The flu shot is your best protection against the flu. The flu vaccines are updated each year to protect against the viruses that are expected to be common during the upcoming flu season. Nonetheless, the flu shot still offers protection. While some people who get vaccinated still get sick, vaccination has been shown to reduce the severity of illness.
Everyone should protect themselves from the flu, especially:
- Adults age 50 and older
- Anyone who lives in community living centers (nursing homes)
- Anyone with ongoing health problems like asthma, diabetes, or heart disease
- Children age six months through 18 years
- Pregnant Women: Flu vaccination protects the mother and also protects the baby from flu for several months after birth.
- Health care workers and caregivers
Get your flu shot. It’s fast, safe, free, and will protect you and those around you from the flu.
