This Week at VA North Texas

This Week

Let's all stay safe!

fa

This week's safety reminder is to be vigilant in maintaining your situation awareness.  Environmental risk factors is an ongoing aspect within all VANTX facilities. To combat these risks, incorporate daily or shift safety briefings to initiate a conscience alertness that will aid in the prevention of slips, trips and falls. This safety reminder is from the VANTX Safety Service.

Thanks for the service everyone provides to our Veterans and their families.

RC Shields

rc

R.C Shields served in the Marines from 1990 – 1994. Being a Veteran himself he felt the need to continue to serve others like him who had worn the uniform. He is the Voluntary Service Specialist for the Center for Development and Civic Engagement at the Fort Worth clinic where he has been doing this for just under 2 years.

Shields works closely with community liaisons and implemented a program that provides food boxes to Veterans with drive through pick-up in the FW VA parking lot. He is constantly involved with other outreach events involving local Veterans. In 2021 he initiated a coffee and snack bar at the Grand Prairie clinic and created a mobile food bank. Shields shares, “I want to leave a major impact on Veterans and staff and not leave them where I have found them. Whether it’s a meal, an event, or a conversation.”

Jacqueline Leeks has been very instrumental in providing her skills and knowledge in support of the Release of Information department within Health Information Management Service. She is an extremely trustworthy individual who performs her duties efficiently and is always available to lend a hand.

Leeks sets the tone for a pleasurable working environment where she collaborates well with all the other employees. Although she has only worked in ROI for less than a year, she continues to go above and beyond and take on tasks ahead of schedule.  Ms. Leeks searches for ways to help alleviate any challenges among her coworkers and supervisors.  She takes time to welcome and support all new staff into the department and has a way of making everyone feel like family.
