Registration for the annual VHA Innovation Experience (iEX) Conference is now open! iEX returns October 25-27, 2022, to provide Veterans and the public a unique opportunity to experience and celebrate how VHA innovation, collaboration, and technology are reimagining Veterans healthcare. This year’s theme – Reimagining Veterans Healthcare – emphasizes solutions that improve the access, effectiveness, efficiency, experience, and equity of healthcare delivered within the largest healthcare system in the US and beyond.
Here’s what to expect at iEX 2022:
Expert Panels
Experts from across healthcare, government, and industry will not only be present during iEX, but participating in expert panels, sessions, showcases, and workshops to engage audiences in the innovative work that sets VHA apart. Some sessions include, but are not limited to:
- Tuesday, October 25th Value Session: Healthcare innovations, digital health solutions, and emerging modern-day technologies offer enormous possibilities to support sweeping improvements in the safety, effectiveness, and equity of Veteran care across the nation. As we reimagine the value chain for health innovations beyond dollars and cents to measure true success building Healthcare 2030, the question is no longer “should we” transform, but “how do we” transform.
- Wednesday, October 26th Showcase: Transportation as Social Determinant of Health and Wellness: Leaders from two of VA’s Transportation and Rideshare programs will speak on the obstacles faced by Veterans to access care, jobs, and other services, as well as the origins and impacts of their respective programs.
- Wednesday, October 26th Design Workshop: Health care systems require continuous innovation to meet the needs of patients and providers. Applying Design Thinking to health care will enhance innovation, efficiency, and effectiveness by increasing focus on patient and provider needs. In this interactive session, listeners will experience designing a human-centric healthcare ecosystem for finest healthcare experiences for all Veterans.
iEX Talks Topics
In these TED-style talks, VHA innovators showcase emerging healthcare solutions, technologies, and ideas. Some of this year’s speakers and topics include:
- On Tuesday, October 25th, Beth Ripley, Deputy Chief of the Office of Healthcare Innovation and Learning (HIL), and Kimberlee Potter, Health Science Officer for the Office of Research & Development, will be speaking about the Future of VA Healthcare as a Point-of-Care Biomanufacturing Hub. Allison Amrhein, Director of VHA Innovators Network (iNET) will also be speaking on how “People ARE the Solution”, focusing on the work that individuals within iNET are accomplishing across VA.
- Wednesday, October 26th will see Scott Wiltz, SimLEARN Medical Director, discussing “SimVET: Vetting the Future of Healthcare.” Simulation, Evaluation, and Testing (SimVET) allows VA to test drive health care solutions before they reach Veterans. Priya Joshi, Chief Health Informatics Officer and Entrepreneur in Residence at San Francisco VA Healthcare Center, will also be presenting on “Solving for Equity.”
Many other speakers, including Amanda Purnell, Director of Data and Analytics Innovation, Brynn Cole, Lead for Reimagining Veteran Healthcare Human Centered Design Project, and more will be speaking during the iEXTalks.
Awards
iEX will also see several accomplished individuals and projects recognized for their impact and hard work. The Under Secretary for Health’s Robert L. Jesse Award, Innovation Specialist of the Year Awards, and others will be presented during the close of iEX on Thursday, October 27th.
VA Leadership Attendance
iEX will bring leaders from across VA as hosts, speakers, and panel moderators. Eric Bruns, Executive Director of SimLEARN, will be the host of iEX both virtually and in-person. The Honorable Denis Richard McDonough, U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs, will be delivering Welcome Remarks on the opening day.
Additionally, Shereef M. Elnahal, Under Secretary for Health VA will lead welcome remarks on the second day, and other VHA leaders such as Carolyn Clancy, Assistant Under Secretary for Health for Discovery, Education and Affiliate Networks, Ryan Vega, Chief Officer, Office of Healthcare Innovation and Learning, and many others will be present throughout the three-day conference.
