Changing Lives Saving Lives Hi-Res

The Playbook: Digital Healthcare Edition

Veterans Health Administration (VHA) has long been committed to Veteran-centric care, and digital health solutions are playing an increasingly important role in this model. From preventing diabetic limb loss to helping visually impaired Veterans live more independent lives, digital health has the potential to improve the lives of every Veteran, everywhere.

In line with its mission to provide Veterans with world-class benefits and services, VHA has been tackling the implementation challenges often associated with digital health solutions to improve the lives of Veterans and the people who care for them. VHA co-developed The Playbook: Digital Healthcare Edition  with the Digital Medicine Society (DiMe) to showcase how VA is delivering value-driven care through eight common digital health solutions.

Facilitating Breakthroughs in Care Delivery and Services

The Playbook aims to improve care delivery by identifying opportunities of value to all stakeholders involved in digital transformation. Innovators can use this playbook as a guide for saving time and money, creating efficiencies, and reducing repetitive administrative work in their systems.

By outlining the value, risks, regulations, and successes of eight digital health solutions, this guide brings the possibility of successful innovation to the door of every health system in the United States.

The Eight Digital Healthcare Solutions

  • Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML)
  • Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), Mixed Reality (MR)
  • Mobile health applications
  • Connected sensor technology
  • Digital therapeutics
  • Virtual care
  • Patient engagement and social media

As the largest integrated health system in the U.S., VHA is leading by example. The playbook is just one part of a larger initiative to use digital innovation to improve the lives of Veterans and the people who care for them.

Get Involved

You can download the Playbook later this week and start using these solutions with your colleagues. The Digital Medicine Society (DiMe) would also like to capture digital health innovation being used in clinical practice. Share your story on DiMe's Case Study Hub and tell others how you're using digital tools, templates, or other resources to improve care delivery and outcomes for Veterans.
