Flu and COVID-19 Drive Thru Vaccination Clinic
The Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) will be hosting a drive-thru flu and COVID-19 vaccine clinic for Veterans at main Tucson VA Medical Center located at 3601 South 6th Avenue, Tucson, AZ 85723 on Saturday, November 13 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
No appointment is necessary to get your flu or COVID-19 vaccine at the drive-thru vaccination clinic. Along with initial COVID-19 vaccines, we will also be offering booster COVID-19 shots. The SAVAHCS currently provides the Moderna and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines.
The SAVE LIVES Act into law on March 24, 2021, expanded VA’s legal authority to provide COVID-19 vaccines to all Veterans, regardless of their VA health care enrollment status, as well as Veteran spouses, caregivers and some beneficiaries. We will be providing initial COVID-19 vaccines and boosters to all Veterans, spouses, and caregivers of Veterans at the drive thru clinic.
The VA follows all CDC guidance in offering COVID-19 booster shots:
- For individuals who completed a Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna COVID-19 vaccine series, the following groups are eligible for a booster shot at least 6 months after their second dose:
- 65 years and older.
- Age 18+ who live in long-term care settings.
- Age 18+ who have underlying medical conditions.
- Age 18+ who work or live in high-risk settings.
- People 18 years and older are eligible to receive a COVID-19 booster shot at least 2 months after their initial J&J vaccine.
Eligible individuals may choose which vaccine they receive as a booster dose. CDC’s recommendations now allow for this type of mix and match dosing for booster shots.
If you would like additional information on the COVID-19 booster vaccines, please visit the VA COVID-19 vaccines webpage, or the VA’s Questions webpage for questions and answers regarding COVID-19 vaccine.
