Miami VA COVID-19 Vaccination Update
Out of an abundance of caution, the Miami VA has temporarily paused administration of the Janssen (Johnson & Johnson) COVID-19 vaccine based on CDC and FDA recommendations.
The Hollywood, Deerfield and Pembroke Pines VA Clinics were scheduled to offer the Janssen vaccine this week, however due to the pause, those with appointments are being contacted to receive Moderna or be rescheduled for a later date. In addition, Saturday vaccine clinics that were scheduled to offer Janssen will now offer Moderna.
Moderna vaccine is available to all Veterans and their spouses and caregivers who want a vaccination at our William “Bill” Kling VA Clinic and Bruce W. Carter Medical Center with no appointment required.
Patients can call us at (305) 575-7000 to schedule an appointment, or walk-in to either of the locations listed above.
For the CDC/FDA press release on this pause please visit: https://www.fda.gov/news-events/press-announcements/joint-cdc-and-fda-statement-johnson-johnson-covid-19-vaccine.
Why should you consider getting the COVID-19 vaccine now?
A vaccine will help protect you, other Veterans and our staff by lowering the risk of getting an infection. Vaccines will also slow the spread of the virus protecting our families, friends, and neighbors.
What else you need to know.
You will need to receive two doses of the Moderna vaccine, with the second dose scheduled 28 days after the initial dose.
After you receive the vaccine, it will still be important to continue wearing a mask in public, washing your hands, and staying at least 6 feet from others who don’t live with you until the virus is under control. It is our hope that a vaccine will help us all come through this pandemic together.
Vaccines are available for walk-ins or by appointment at the Bruce W. Carter VA Medical Center and the William "Bill" Kling VA Clinic.
