 COVID-19 Vaccines at the Iowa City VA Health Care System
The Iowa City VA Health Care System is working diligently to offer and administer the
COVID-19 vaccine as quickly as possible to Veterans who receive care at VA and who meet current CDC guidelines.
Currently we are scheduling eligible and enrolled Veterans who meet the following criteria:
65 years of age and older
OR
Any age with the following conditions:
Previous solid organ transplant
Receiving Chemotherapy
On Dialysis
Spinal Cord Injury
Homeless
Patients will receive a letter with instructions for scheduling a COVID-19 vaccine appointment when their priority group is eligible. Letters for the current priority group listed above are going out now. Please only contact your PACT team if you need to ask questions about your personal health history and the vaccine. Appointments are available daily at the Iowa City VA Medical Center, and a limited number of appointments are available at the community based outpatient clinics each week.
The Moderna COVID-19 Vaccine requires two doses 28 days apart in order to receive full protection from the vaccine. When you schedule your first dose, plan accordingly so you can come back 28 days later to get your second dose. If you are unable to keep your COVID-19 appointment for either dose, please let your care team know as vaccine supplies are currently limited, and the dose could be used by someone else.
During this phase of limited vaccine supply, we expect interest to far exceed vaccine availability. That is why we continue to follow CDC guidelines for vaccine administration to ensure those at greatest risk for severe illness are offered the vaccine as it becomes available.
