VA offers a COVID-19 vaccine to Veterans who are essential workers

The Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System is expanding the group of Veterans currently being scheduled for COVID-19 vaccinations to include certain groups of essential workers.
Veterans of any age who work in the following professions can now receive a vaccine at VA in New Orleans as long as they are eligible for VA health care:
- First responders such as firefighters and police
- Health care workers
- Education (teachers, school support staff, day care workers)
- Agriculture and food processing workers
- Manufacturing
- Corrections workers
- U.S. Postal Service workers
- Public transit workers
- Grocery store workers
Veterans must provide proof of employment in an eligible field to be vaccinated as an essential worker. Veterans who are over 65 or in other high-risk groups remain eligible to receive the vaccine now. In time, VA will offer a vaccine to all Veterans receiving VA health care who want one.”
Southeast Louisiana Veterans who wish to be vaccinated as essential workers should contact VA at 1-800-935-8387 extension 72819 Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and weekends from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
