VA North Texas Director's Suite--COVID-19 Vaccine Update--January 8, 2021

VA North Texas Director's Suite

Veterans, stakeholders, and friends:

Thus far, VA North Texas Health Care System has provided Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccinations to 3,000 employees, community living center residents, spinal cord injury patients, and other high-risk patients currently in inpatient status.

Several of you have asked when the COVID-19 vaccine will be available for our outpatient population. At this time, our allotted doses are not yet available to our outpatient population. When additional doses of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines become available for outpatient use, we will continue to use CDC guidelines to establish who will be offered the vaccine and in what order.

Per CDC guidance, when the additional vaccine doses become available to VA North Texas, the following guidelines will be in place:

  • Veterans must be enrolled and have a Primary Care Provider to be eligible to get the vaccine at a VA site of care.
  • Vaccines are strictly voluntary.
  • Each Veteran’s Primary Care Provider will determine the priority of individual Veterans.
  • Each Veteran will receive a letter from the VA when their group/tier of the prioritization schedule is eligible to receive the vaccine.
  • Veterans are highly encouraged to review our official VA North Texas website and our official social media sites on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for the most up to date information on our operating status, clinic hours, and vaccine updates.

Thank you for your service.
