The Alaska VA Healthcare System (AVAHS) vaccinated its first Veterans yesterday, Jan. 4. Five Veterans were vaccinated at the Fairbanks Community-Based Outpatient Clinic.
AVAHS expects to complete vaccinations with all its employees by Jan. 15. AVAHS will start vaccinating Veterans at the Anchorage clinic Jan. 7.
On Thursday, Jan. 7, AVAHS will begin vaccinating Veterans in the Kenai area. Next week AVAHS will start vaccinating Veterans in the MatSu area at the MatSu Community-Based Outpatient Clinic and at the Juneau Community-Based Outpatient Clinic.
For Veterans located in rural areas, AVAHS is working with community partners using tribal sharing agreements to support vaccinating those Veterans.
All Moderna COVID-19 vaccines will be by appointment only. AVAHS will contact Veterans to schedule appointments when their priority group comes up.
When more information is available, AVAHS will let Veterans know of areas administering vaccines to Veterans via its website, email distribution, social media, and other media.
