Dear Veterans,
VA is working with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and other federal partners to develop a phased plan to maximize the benefit of any authorized COVID-19 vaccine.
Under this phased plan, we’ll first offer vaccines to Veterans in our Community Living Center (CLC) and frontline VA healthcare workers. Vaccinating our healthcare workers first helps us continue providing care for our Veterans.
After these two groups, we’ll begin to offer vaccines to more Veterans who are at high risk of severe illness and death from COVID-19. We will have members of our G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center team contact you when you're eligible to get a vaccine. Please know, we will follow CDC guidelines for determining who is considered to be at high risk of severe illness and death from COVID-19. Factors that may influence the risk of severe disease include the following:
-
Age. The risk of severe illness or death from COVID-19 increases with age.
-
Existing health problems. People with certain health problems (like diabetes, heart disease, or obesity) have a higher risk of severe illness or death from COVID-19.
-
Other factors that raise a person’s risk of severe illness or death from COVID-19, such as living in a nursing home or other group living facility.
We encourage you to sign up to learn more about the COVID-19 vaccine and stay informed when the vaccine is available. You can stay informed by signing up at this link here.
You do not need to sign up to get a vaccine, but we will use this information to understand interest and keep you informed.
Thank you for allowing us to serve you.
