Similarities and Differences between Flu and COVID-19

Influenza (Flu) and COVID-19 are both contagious respiratory illnesses, but they are caused by different viruses. While more is learned every day, there is still a lot that is unknown about COVID-19 and the virus that causes it. This page from the CDC compares COVID-19 and flu, given the best available information to date.

Walk-in flu shot clinic is located in the Medical Center Welcome Center. Hours of operation are Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Walk-in flu shot clinics are also available at our Community Based Outpatient Clinics:  

Flint and Jackson CBOC - Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m. 

Toledo CBOC - Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

Flu vaccination can keep you from getting sick with flu and reduce the risk of being hospitalized. Getting a flu vaccine is especially important for people with health conditions such as diabetes and heart disease. Pregnant women and young children should also get a flu shot.

Getting vaccinated yourself may also protect people around you, including those who are more vulnerable to serious flu illness, like babies and young children, older people, and people with certain chronic health conditions.  


VA’s Beneficiary Travel Program Launches New Online Portal for Reimbursement Claims

More convenience, faster processing with VA’s new online portal for beneficiary travel

 

Beginning this week, Veterans, caregivers, and beneficiaries who are eligible for reimbursement of mileage and other travel expenses to and from approved health care appointments can now enter claims in the new Beneficiary Travel Self-Service System (BTSSS). BTSSS simplifies the current claim submission process for beneficiaries and ensures timely processing and payment of travel reimbursements.

  • Track the status of submitted claims
  • Reduce processing time for submitted claims
  • Use self-help tools to make claim submissions fast and easy
  • Visit AccessVA, select submit a travel claim, and logon using a DS Log on account.

A DS Logon is an ID issued by DoD that will allows Veterans and caregivers to access many VA and DoD sites with one user username and password.

VA Caregiver Support Program Expands Eligibility

The Veterans Affairs Program of Comprehensive Assistance for Family Caregivers has expanded! The program is now open to eligible WWII, Korean War and Vietnam Veterans. The program has expanded to caregivers of eligible Veterans who incurred or aggravated a serious injury in the line of duty in the active military, naval, or air service on or before May 7, 1975.  VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System is prepared to assist.  Click here to learn more!
