KCVA COVID-19 Updates

KCVA Header

To my fellow Veterans,

As our fight against COVID-19 continues to evolve, so to do the policies and procedures at Kansas City VA Medical Center (KCVA). We continue to review guidance from the CDC and the latest medical research to ensure we are providing the safest environment possible for our Veterans, their families, visitors and our employees. I know these changes can be challenging, but we must adapt as we learn more about how this disease is spread.

Kansas City and surrounding communities continue to see positive COVID-19 cases emerge. Because of this sustained transmission, it is necessary to continue efforts to protect the health and safety of our Veterans. With schools reopening and certain business activities resuming throughout Kansas City and surrounding areas, it is necessary for KCVA and the KCVA Community Based Outpatient Clinics to maintain public health measures we have previously put in place.

Universal Face Masking and Screening is Mandatory for Everyone

  • Everyone entering the Kansas City VA Medical Center facility will be screened and is required to wear a face mask.
  • Face masks with one-way exhalation valves or vents are prohibited unless worn over an approved mask. The valve on these masks allow potentially infections droplets through, which could be a hazard to others. (This measure was recently added)
  • Face masks need to cover your mouth and nose, fitting snugly against the sides of your face and secured under your chin.
  • On the day of your scheduled appointment we will make a face mask available to you should you forget to bring your own face mask.
  • If you refuse to wear a face mask, you will not be allowed to proceed to your appointment.
  • For the continued safety of other Veterans and staff within the facility, KCVA currently does not recognize physician notes, medical mask exemption cards or other exceptions to wearing a mask.
  • Wearing a face mask protects the health and safety of all Veterans, visitors, and staff.

  • Our facility has an enhanced cleaning process, practices social distancing with clearly marked designated areas throughout the Medical Center.
  • Elevators are limited to four (4) riders at any one time.
  • Seat covers have been added in common areas and waiting room areas.
  • Hand sanitizing stations have been deployed throughout the Medical Center.

Thank you for your patience and support. Please know that each decision or change in policy is made with one goal in mind: To keep you, your families and our staff safe. Based on our current results, we have done just that. However, without your understanding and compliance, I feel the outcome would have been much different. Thank you for your continued understanding and adherence to these measures.
