My HealtheVet (Mostly) Unavailable, May 17 - May 19, 2019

My HealtheVet (Mostly) Unavailable this Weekend

Downtime needed for system changes only, no design changes.

My HealtheVet will be unavailable Saturday, May 18, 2019, from 8:00 a.m. (ET). The system may be available for most of Sunday, May 19. We are making system changes that make it necessary to shut the entire website down. Email alerts about prescription shipments, new medical images, and appointment reminders will be turned off Friday, May 17 at 3:00 p.m. (ET) and may be turned on Sunday, May 18.

If you know you have prescriptions to refill, appointments to check, or medical records to review, please do these things before Saturday morning. Our goal is to return to normal service by Saturday night, but this may be delayed until Sunday.

What are the changes?

These are system changes, popularly known as 'moving to the cloud.' This will improve security and overall management. It's part of a larger U.S. government effort.

When it is finished, this will not affect the data in your My HealtheVet account or navigation of the website.

When will this happen?

Certain services will be unavailable starting Friday afternoon, May 17, through Sunday, May 19. These include email notifications of appointment reminders, new medical images, and prescription tracking.

What should you do now?

There are several things you can do:

  • Print out (and save to your computer) a list of your current prescriptions. To be prepared, check your VA prescriptions coming up for refills, and request them now. If you need help with a VA prescription refill, please call the phone number on your medication bottle. Download a copy of your recent medical records; the VA Health Summary is a great way to do this. You can also get more detailed, and older records with the VA Blue Button reports.
  • Check any upcoming VA appointments. You may want to view the VA Online Scheduling tool from the VA Mobile App Store, or confirm future appointments with your local facility prior to going to the VA.
  • Write down the phone numbers of your health care teams' offices, as well as your VA Medical Center's pharmacy phone number.

Do we think My HealtheVet will be unavailable for a long period of time?

No. But we need everyone to be prepared for the unexpected.

We will be posting relevant and timely information on Facebook and Twitter.

We are not planning on any long service disruptions, but we want you to be prepared so that you can continue to receive the health care to which you are entitled.

Thank you.
