Promotional Resources Now Available for LGBT Health Awareness Week
2018 LGBT Awareness Week is March 26-30
VA LGBT Health Awareness Week is a week-long observance to bring
awareness to the unique health needs and disparities of the lesbian, gay,
bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community. VA is working toward becoming
a national leader in health care for LGBT Veterans, and strives to provide
high-quality care in sensitive, respectful environments nationwide.
To mark the event, please display
a commemorative poster (LGBT Health Awareness Week) at your facility and/or forward this email. The poster can be printed on
8.5”x11” paper or used with electronic bulletin board systems.
The theme, Let’s Talk!
Sexual orientation and gender identity matter in health care,
encourages patient-provider communication to facilitate patient trust,
disclosure, and positive health outcomes. LGBT
Health Awareness Week is an important time to bring attention to the unique
health needs of LGBT Americans.
As you prepare for discussions with your Veterans about LGBT health,
download the LGBT Veteran
Health fact sheets for gay and bisexual men, lesbian and bisexual women,
transgender women and transgender men. These fact sheets detail the benefits of
coming out to LGBT Veterans.
Throughout March
and the remainder of the year, use these clinical resources and
promotional materials to encourage LGBT Veterans to come out to their
providers. For fact sheets, posters, training information and more, visit the
VHA Transgender SharePoint at http://go.va.gov/Transgender and the LGB SharePoint at http://go.va.gov/LGB.
LGBT Health Awareness Week is sponsored by the LGBT Program (10P4Y) and the Office of Primary Care Services (10P4F). For more information, please email VALGBTProgram@va.gov about LGBT specific-issues or join them Friday’s from 2-3 EST for Ask LGBT Health. For call information, visit Ask LGBT Health.
