Protect yourself from education fraud!
November was national fraud prevention month and makes now an optimal time to bring awareness to schemes aimed at VBA education benefits. Your education benefits, such as the GI Bill®, can help you further your education and launch an exciting new career. Unfortunately, some predatory educational institutions use deceptive practices to take advantage of Veterans, often robbing them of their benefits and leaving them on the hook for private loan costs.
You can take the following steps to help protect yourself from falling victim to predatory practices:
- Use the GI Bill Comparison Tool to help verify the authenticity and accreditation of an educational institution or program.
- Beware of suspicious activity from colleges or vocational programs, such as a rushed enrollment process.
- Read enrollment and payment documents thoroughly before signing, as some institutions may hide clauses that require you to sign up for unwanted student loans or expenses.

You may be eligible for expanded benefits through the PACT Act
PACT Act is a new law that expands VA health care and benefits for Veterans exposed to burn pits and other toxic substances. The law expands and extends eligibility for VA health care for Veterans with toxic exposures and Veterans of the Vietnam, Gulf War and post-9/11 eras. It also adds more presumptive-exposure locations for Agent Orange and radiation. The PACT Act requires VA to provide a toxic exposure screening to every Veteran enrolled in VA healthcare.
This law helps us provide generations of Veterans — and their survivors — with the care and benefits they’ve earned and deserve. To learn more, including eligibility and how to apply, please visit the PACT Act web page.
