Dear School Certifying Officials at NCD facilities,
Beginning with terms on or after August 1, 2021, students using their Post-9/11 GI Bill® benefit at a non-college degree (NCD) facility will be required to verify their enrollment at the beginning of each month to receive their Monthly Housing Allowance (MHA) and/or kicker payment.
We have reached out to GI Bill students who recently used the Post-9/11 GI Bill at an NCD facility to notify them of these requirements. Here’s what you need to know:
- Text Message Verification:
Students will be able to use text messages as a simple, quick option for verifying enrollment to receive your MHA payment uninterrupted. To streamline the verification process, VA is encouraging students to sign up for text messaging. To do so, students can contact the Education Call Center (ECC) at 1-888-GIBILL-1 (1-888-442-4551) to ensure VA has their mobile phone number.
All impacted students with a mobile phone number on file will receive an opt-in text beginning on August 1. After opting-in, students can simply reply to a VA text message to verify enrollment monthly.
- New certification requirements for SCOs:
In tandem with these verification requirements for students, you will now be required to certify the student’s enrollment again after the course add-drop date. You will be trained on changes to the enrollment certification process during both July Office Hours on July 19, 20 and 23 and in August Office Hours.
Look out for more information on enrollment verification coming soon, including a video with step-by-step instructions and a website with FAQs, that you can share with students. All of this will also be shared with affected students directly.
Thank you for your hard work and continuing to support our GI Bill beneficiaries!
Respectfully,
Education Service
