Fred Fitch 50 Year Milestone Spotlight
Fred Fitch is many things, a father, a grandfather, a deacon, a certified softball umpire, a navy veteran, and a VA employee who recently celebrated his 50 years of service milestone.
His military career is impressive, to say the least, having served several tours in Vietnam including involvement in the evacuation of Saigon, South Vietnam. Further in his career he was an air intercept controller with 106 radar controlled intercepts and later as a plane guard during the Granada hostage situation. Fred Fitch personifies the meaning of the word service.
We caught up with Fred and asked him about his military service, his time at the VA and what his plans are for retirement.

Dial 988 then Press 1 for the Veterans Crisis Line Launched Nationwide
On July 16, 2022, the Veterans Crisis Line transitioned to a new number, Dial 988 then Press 1.
Signed into law in 2020, the National Suicide Hotline Designation Act authorized 988 as the new three-digit number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. All telephone service providers in the U.S. were required to activate the number by July 16, 2022; many providers chose to implement the service sooner.
VA administers the Veterans Crisis Line through the Lifeline’s national network. Our own Unified Communications Infrastructure (UCI) pillar has been hard at work to make this and many other enhancements to the Veterans Crisis Line (VCL). Look for more on this topic in the coming weeks.

Take a (FUN) Survey
It's Time to Go
There are things that are so ingrained in American culture that we can't imagine living without certain items, such as our favorite football team, our cell phones or a hot, delicious slice of pizza. In this survey, you'll be asked to make some tough decisions and eliminate some items from existence. But don't worry, once you complete the survey all your favorite things will still here, we promise. Have fun!
The survey can only be taken once but check back often to see how your answers stack up with those of your colleagues. Answers are anonymous and results are measured in percentages. Final results will appear in the next issue of Bits & Bytes.
