National Scheduling Office System Maintenance

May 14-15 and May 21-22 until 7:00 E.T.

For the next two weekends, May 14 - 15, 2016 and May 21 - 22, 2016 ending at approximately 7:00 p.m. E.T. on both Sundays, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) database used by the National Cemetery Scheduling Office, to assist in determining eligibility, will not be available. This scheduled outage is for system maintenance and upgrades.

This should not impact customers who contact the National Cemetery Scheduling Office (NCSO) on Saturday and Sunday who have discharge documents readily available or who are requesting a subsequent burial of a spouse or dependent of someone already buried in a national cemetery.

We recommend that customers with an initial burial request who do not have discharge documents readily available contact us on the Friday before or Monday after either of the weekends, if possible.  If not, the Scheduling Office will:

  • Establish the case in our Burial Operations Support System
  • Contact you once systems are operational on the subsequent Monday to complete the scheduling process, and
  • Send you an email confirmation of the scheduled interment, assuming a valid email address has been provided

The National Cemetery Scheduling Office (NCSO) is open 7 days a week from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Central Time, excluding Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Day and New Year’s Day, in order to serve families and Veterans desiring to make burial arrangements at a time that is most convenient for them.

We always recommend that you submit readily available discharge documents with initial applications for burial as this will assist in expediting your verification of military service.  If discharge documents are not readily available you should still contact us and provide whatever documents you have because we can search for evidence of military service in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) database or, if they are not available, begin searching for these records in government archived facilities.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we attempt to serve you better.

Please look for our future e-mails on memorial benefits available for eligible Veterans and spouses. Also, please encourage your friends and colleagues to sign-up for future e-mail updates and information regarding VA memorial benefits through GovDelivery at https://public.govdelivery.com/accounts/usvanca/subscriber/new.
