VA hosts BRAIN Summit 2022 to explore use of artificial intelligence in Veteran health care

WHAT:  The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs National Artificial Intelligence Institute is hosting the Brain Health & Rehabilitation through Artificial Intelligence Network Summit 2022.

WHO:  The Summit will feature remarks from Assistant Under Secretary for Health for Discovery Carolyn Clancy, M.D., Education and Affiliate Networks, Veterans Health Administration, VA NAII Director Gil Alterovitz, Ph.D. and other leading experts in health care and artificial intelligence:

  • Alfredo Quinones-Hinojosa, M.D., William J. and Charles H. Mayo Professor and Monica Flynn Jacoby Endowed Chair of Neurosurgery at Mayo Clinic.
  • Eliot Siegel, M.D., Professor and Vice Chair at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Department of Diagnostic Radiology, and Chief of Radiology and Nuclear Medicine for the Veterans Affairs Maryland Healthcare System.
  • Jordan Green, Ph.D., Director, Professor and Vice Chair, Biomedical Engineering, Johns Hopkins.
  • Nick van Terheyden, M.D., Principal, ECG Management Consulting.
  • Ronald Summers, M.D., Senior Investigator, NIH Clinical Center.
  • Siddhartha Mukherjee, M.D., Assistant Professor, Columbia University Medical Center and author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning book, The Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer.

WHY: The BRAIN Summit will bring together AI researchers, clinicians and leaders across government, industry and academia to share their knowledge and expertise on using AI to improve outcomes for Veterans and others facing traumatic brain injury, brain cancer and mental health challenges. The Summit will feature discussions about AI in health care research and clinical practice. Participants will engage in interactive panel sessions, which will help inform future research directions and policy papers.
