Beverly Buchanan, a nurse educator at the William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center was selected as one of the spokesperson’s for the 2017 Go Red for Women Real Women by the American Heart Association.  The American Heart Association recently selected Beverly Buchanan of VA’s William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, South Carolina, as one of its national spokespersons. Grammy and Dove Award-nominated songwriter Bob Regan founded Operation Song, a music-based therapy program, in 2012, collaborating with Grammy Award-nominated songwriter Don Goodman and music therapist Tina Haynes.  Operation Song’s mission is to empower Veterans and active duty military to tell their stories through songwriting. On Sept. 20, VA and AMVETS hosted an #ExploreVA Facebook Live event on suicide prevention to discuss how to support Veterans in need of help.  During the event, Joe Chenelly, executive director of AMVETS, and Megan McCarthy, deputy director of Suicide Prevention for VA’s Office of Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, discussed the difficulties Veterans and service members face, how to identify and support someone at risk and where to find VA resources and treatment options. While she was at The Basic School, 2nd Lt. Mariah Klenke decided to become the Marine Corps’ first female assault amphibian officer.  “We were going over all of the MOSs and [amphibious assault vehicles] popped up and to me it just stuck out,” Klenke told Marine Corps Times.
